Mattibag

Our story

After moving house a few times back in 2011, Mattibag founder Simon noticed his new mattress getting more and more trashed with every move. Fed up, he tried wrapping it in a tarp. And a lot of tape.

Mattibag was born. Sort of.

The tarp worked. It meant the mattress could be moved without having to worry about scraping it on dirty walls or floors, or the inside of a grubby truck. But tape wasn't a solution. What it needed was a zip. And handles.

The first Mattibag was yellow.

The first Mattibag cost a whopping $350 and was made to our design by an incredibly helpful alterations lady in Richmond, Victoria. Since then we've refined the details, and with the help of our supplier in Nanjing, China, produced and sold more than 10,000 bags.
.
Our goal is to help Australians extend the life of their mattresses, keeping them out of landfill for longer. As for the colour, it turns out different colours of tarp cost different amounts of money, and yellow is the most expensive. Who knew. We stuck with blue to keep costs and prices down.

 Designed for reuse, not landfill.

At Zippertarp, we like products that are durable, not disposable. If you're someone who believes in buying it once and buying it right, Mattibag is for you. Our bags are carefully constructed using high quality materials so they can be used over and over again.
.
Based in Melbourne, Australia, our philosophy is simple: sell the sort of quality products we'd like to buy ourselves, and provide the same level of service we'd like to receive. We're hoping to roll out some new bags in the future, so stay tuned. In the meantime, good luck with the move.
